2b vessel process

I will be creating another mug, this time she will be hand built and have a handle. I started by wedging a large chunk of clay, then throwing a slab for the main bowl of my mug. With this mug I am trying to create a shape that is large enough to hold soup and coffee alike. Finding the perfect  mold size for this project proved impossible, so I resorted to hand building, which sacrifices the symmetry of my mug but I think overall its worth it to get the size I like. After I had the main bowl of my mug created, I threw another slab to create the 3D star attached to the front of my mug using scratch and slip technique. Finally, I attached a ball handle to the left side of my mug using the same technique.

Here is the product now:

Now I have to wait for the mug to slow dry so it can be fired.

2b vessels process

After attaching the handle and painting my mug with underglaze, the handle of my mug broke off. I decided against adding a handle and painted underglaze over the raw parts where the handle was attached. I had my mug bisque fired then I painted on the glaze using gun metal green.

this is what the end product looks like:

Personally I hate the result and I will be smashing this for fun.

2a Vessels Purpose

My goal is to create a vessel made for holding snacks and a vessel for holding hot drinks. (mug) The bowl I will be making is going to be the perfect portion size for me and created on the wheel. The mug will hold all my favorite drinks. It is also important that both of these vessels are aesthetically pleasing.
