ETAPE FINALE

weekly blog post week 11

This week i worked on my lino-print project.

I started by sketching and planning my design in my sketchbook.

Afterwards i was able to start carving the design into my linoleum block.

Then, I started printing with the ink. I plan to carve out the background to make a second image. I did not photo document the process of using the ink but I will for the next round. This process involved coating the roller and then coating my stamp then burnishing the paper onto the stamp. This process took a few attempts to get right, I experimented with different types of paper and the amount of ink used. here are the results:

This week I also worked on my inquiry project. I worked out in nature and it was very cathartic.

This week my biggest struggle this week was carving my Lino-print design. At first i found it very difficult and hard to control, but as time went on I became more comfortable with the medium, loosening my wrists to create more fluid shapes.

My biggest win this week was my natural art, making the art was very therapeutic for me. Before this experience, the local flora and fauna did not interest me. I had a larger interest for snowy landscapes or tropical animals. But I found that spending long amounts of time in the forest here with no distractions other than connecting with the nature and really looking at it through a creative lens, I found beauty and serenity in what exists in my backyard. The natural sounds of the forest and water were calming and allowed me to focus fully in my artwork. I look forward to the beautiful weather we will have next week to continue working with mother nature in new ways.

My goal for next week is to go out into nature again, I plan to research the local plants and maybe draw them. I also plan to make more natural art in this coming week. Another goal I have is to remove the black out background of my lino-print design, this will allow me to complete this project on paper.  I also want to use my print to make a design on a t shirt and tote bag.

Weekly Blog ost – week 8

April 13th 2023

This week I worked on a few mugs on the wheel. I made these as a housewarming gift for my brother, I am proud of the feet that I carved out of the bottom. I also made a cup and a bowl for my cat to eat from and a vase for my mom.

This week I also took photos of my sculpture and handmade necklace:

This week my biggest win was creating a lot of things on the wheel, my biggest struggle was getting the right lighting for my photos of the necklace.

The goal for next week is to glaze all these new wares, and to continue my altered book.

WEEK 2, FEB 9, weekly edublog post

This week I started on my altered book, Ive completed one half of a spread. For this first spread I am making a found poem with the words already in my book, I am using also used and leftover thread to create words and add extra details. This week I also worked on my inquiry which is creating sustainable art, I made a reusable paint pallet from clay, this is being bisked today. I’ve  also researched inspiring artists who also make sustainable art. what i plan to do next week is to continue working on my altered book, continue my inquiry research and make a edublog post for this inquiry project. my biggest struggle this week was knowing what to make to depict the feelings I have towards the subject I am working on in my altered book. my biggest triumph this week is from finishing one whole page in my book.

My initial idea for this inquiry project was to create a plate using a technique I have not tried. I used a slump mold method to create this. I added a foot to this plate because it would be wobbly otherwise. What I learned making this plate is that a less refined and even plate can also be just as stylish as a factory made style, if not more.

What was the most challenging element of the debate project for you personally? Did you overcome that challenge and if so, how did you do so?

Public speaking in front of a class makes me very anxious. It is a challenge for me to speak confidently and have strong body language. I overcome this challenge by trying to present as soon as possible, so its possible for me to present.

What were you most proud of in your project?

I feel that the essay that I wrote about the subject was the strongest part of my project. In writing I was able to express and communicate my ideas properly.

wheel work pt 2

I have successfully completed two wares, for this assignment I was asked to create a mug and a bowl thrown on the wheel.

some difficulties I encountered were cracking and breaking. These problems arose when I was attaching the bunny ears to my mug. After some problem solving, I learned that the clay of the mug base and the clay of the ears I was attempting to attach were of two different dryness levels, this led to cracking in my clay. to fit this problem I brought both clay pieces to the same dryness level.

Working on the wheel I encountered difficulties actually forming my bowls, this project allowed me to hone my wheel working skills to create more uniform looking plates, mugs, and bowls on the wheel: at times they would become off centered or the sides would become uneven. There were many times where I had to restart my mug and bowl because the creation I made on the wheel did not turn out as planned. But one cant learn a skill without mistakes. I was triumphant in making my wares after a few tries and some hours of effort led me to my results.

This mug and bowl were meant to resemble each other in terms of shape. To create this unique shape I used the flat side of my rib and held it against the side of my wares to create a straight up and down shape. Aesthetically I enjoy this shape, for both wares i made a effort to create approximately 1/4 inch thick walls, this delivers a heavier wares, that are more durable and may not crack or chip as easily. The wares pictured above are the results after bien thrown on the wheel and trimmed. The picture of the mug was taken after my first attempt at attaching the ears.

Actias luna — “Luna Moth” | Welcome, visitor!

After my wares were bisque fired, It was time for under glazing! The ears attached to my bunny mug had not fell off in the kiln to my delight. There was a very high chance of this happening considering, the ears had broken off and been re-attached upwards of 3 times. It seems my efforts payed off in the end. The bunny mug was not in need of underglaze, the plan was to feature the texture of the face by adding glaze over top. On the bowl pictured: there is a under glazed Luna moth painted on the base of the ware. These moths are personal to me, they represent connecting with femineity, our inner spirit and trust in ones selves intuition. Luna moths live for only one week after transforming, they do not have time for any games as their soul purpose in this week is to reproduce, create new beginnings and be a beautiful mystical moth.

here are my wares completed, with overglaze.

Life below water – Research – Pacific chorus frog

Species Profile: Pacific Tree Frog – BCWF Bog Blog472 Pacific Tree Frog Images, Stock Photos & Vectors | Shutterstockamphibians | macrocritters

Pacific tree frogs are in danger because of excess logging and urban development. Pesticides in water are especially dangerous to these frogs because they breath through their skin, in ingesting these toxins they get hurt. This kills pacific tree frogs.

solutions to deforestation include: avoiding single use packaging, choosing recycled products and recycling them again afterwards. Planting trees when you can and being mindful on your consumption of unrecycled material.

Wheel Work (Skill Builder)

vocabulary and definitions:

bowl: deep dish or basin a concave vessel usually larger than a cup.

bowl: a usually glass blown or metal small vessel with a small hole and pipe connected to the bottom.

mug: a persons face.

How I can make a physical wear that relates to these ideas:

I am making a bowl for holding food, I want it to make my food look extra delicious. I want to create three mugs that have animal faces and features on them.

My plans for texture and decorative elements:

I want the bowl I make to obviously look hand-made, I think I can achieve this by creating rough edges and textured sides.

The plan I have for my mugs is to create 3 personalized mugs for people in my family by including features of their favourite animals on the front with the form of the mugs.
