ETAPE FINALE

Lino print (purpose)

Here is my plan for my lino print. I plan to create two images, one with a dark background, and the other with a white background. I want to do this to explore what contrast in the background can do for my subject matter. I want to understand the emotions that can be evoked through contrast in a piece.

I made this plan with a inky brush pen, which allowed me to create bold black lines with similar shapes to those that are achieved with lino printing. On the right I created the images from my head, on the left, I found some examples of Lino prints and attempted to replicate the style. I used thicker black lines to create more contrast and bold imagery.

The subject matter I chose relates to the theme of the portfolio I am creating. I wanted to comment on how the large companies ruining the planet for a dollar are taking away our livelihoods. While they are destroying the air they are destroying the agriculture just to make money. I wanted to clearly state that money will not equal food once all the plants are dead for the sake of money. I want to inspire people to stop buying into rich companies like this by showing that our food and lives are at stake.

weekly blog post week 14

This week I made bisque fired these hand built plates.

I made these bowls on the wheel, I used dark coloured clay and it was very hard to work with. . . but rewarding.

I did some lino-printing, and finished my project.

on tuesday i created this, but i was not able to finish because a bear came.

on wednesday I drew this assignment using my shoe, it was very fun .

my biggest win this week was completing my lino-print. i plan to add this to my artistic portfolio. my biggest downfall this week was that i wasted a valuable day of nature work time because a bear arrived and i had to leave.

next week i hope to make a stop-motion movie in nature.

weekly blog post week 11

This week i worked on my lino-print project.

I started by sketching and planning my design in my sketchbook.

Afterwards i was able to start carving the design into my linoleum block.

Then, I started printing with the ink. I plan to carve out the background to make a second image. I did not photo document the process of using the ink but I will for the next round. This process involved coating the roller and then coating my stamp then burnishing the paper onto the stamp. This process took a few attempts to get right, I experimented with different types of paper and the amount of ink used. here are the results:

This week I also worked on my inquiry project. I worked out in nature and it was very cathartic.

This week my biggest struggle this week was carving my Lino-print design. At first i found it very difficult and hard to control, but as time went on I became more comfortable with the medium, loosening my wrists to create more fluid shapes.

My biggest win this week was my natural art, making the art was very therapeutic for me. Before this experience, the local flora and fauna did not interest me. I had a larger interest for snowy landscapes or tropical animals. But I found that spending long amounts of time in the forest here with no distractions other than connecting with the nature and really looking at it through a creative lens, I found beauty and serenity in what exists in my backyard. The natural sounds of the forest and water were calming and allowed me to focus fully in my artwork. I look forward to the beautiful weather we will have next week to continue working with mother nature in new ways.

My goal for next week is to go out into nature again, I plan to research the local plants and maybe draw them. I also plan to make more natural art in this coming week. Another goal I have is to remove the black out background of my lino-print design, this will allow me to complete this project on paper.  I also want to use my print to make a design on a t shirt and tote bag.

weekly edublog post- week 7

April 6th 2023

This week I made a sculpture of a lady. I want to create lots of little figures in all different shapes with different words on them. I started with a solid piece of clay and sculpted the figure. Once it was leather hard I carved out the inside so that it would not be too thick to fire. I had a great time designing the tattoos on the body of the figure, and I am very pleased with the results.

I had some difficulty choosing the pose I wanted to create. I chose this because I was inspired by a sculpture made on a show called the great British pottery throw down. A lady named Christine Cherry  made a sculpture that touched on her experience with breast cancer. She represented it with a hole through where the right breast would be.

The Great Pottery Throw Down on Twitter: "Christine's abstract self sculpture was brave, powerful and completely stunning. Well done, Christine! #potterythrowdown https://t.co/Q4xrl9y2dx" / Twitter

Life Below Water – Stencil Process

Here is the sketch for the seagull that appears in the background of my artwork. There are 4 different layers that I planned for this seagull.  Later I sized up the sketch by drawing it on a larger piece of paper.

Then I cut out the stencil using a razor. This part was difficult especially with the small details.

To make the design I used a stencil of the silhouette of my seagull to block out the shapes.

Soon I will use my stencil for the shadows on the seagull. I also plan to attach pieces of plastic to my seagull to represent the waste pollution that they often swallow and die from.
