Digital Footprint

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two eaxpmles.

My digital footprint can affect my future opportunities in various ways. Having a positive online footprint such as posting appropriate comments and pictures, can ensure that my future employers can trust me. If I apply for a job or a university and they look me up online, what they will find is going to reflect the type of person I am. Weather I am online or off I want to be perceived as a kind person. In addition, having a broader knowledge of technology can offer me new opportunities since it demonstrates the skills I have learned. Although if you have a negative footprint it can damage many of your future opportunities. When employers are trying to find candidates, they search for people with a respectable character that aligns with not only the company’s values but also their peers. If employers see your negative footprint, they might think that you don’t fit their criteria. A positive digital footprint will give you more opportunities in the future.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe?

A strategy you can use to keep your digital footprint safe is to use the privacy setting. Don’t Share your password with anyone and use different passwords for each of your accounts. Have a private account and only accept the people that you know and trust to follow it. As well as being careful to not overshare; such as not putting your full name, birthday and other important information about yourself up online. Along with that you can think before you post because once it is online it can stay there forever, even if you have deleted it. Be conscientious of what you like and comment on since it can be tracked back to you easily.

What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

Information that I learned was that once you post, comment or like anything online everyone will know. In addition, everything that you put online can stay there forever. I would also pass on the information to think before you post, think if it is kind or helpful. Furthermore, that the things you presently put online can impact your future greatly. I would go about telling students in a positive and informative ways such as this article.
