An interview with Phillip Neumann

I chose to interview Phillip Neumann. He is the owner of “Neumann & associates” law firm in Downtown Vancouver.

Why are you passionate about your job?

Phillip: “I am passionate about my job because i am able to make a difference in peoples lives, and help them during very difficult times. This is a very rewarding feeling. It is also empowering to own your own company an have a great team of people around you, and seeing your hard work pay off.”

What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?

Phillip: “i have faced many obstacles including the search for great staff, securing money to finance my company, and dealing with a law suit from my former boss. Also there have been other obstacles because of changes in the law, difficult clients and dealing with insurance companies.

What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

Phillip: “work hard and believe in yourself. Identify what your strengths are and also what your weaknesses are, and focus on your strengths. Get other people to help you with the elements of your business that are not your strong suit. also, focus on building strong relationships, as they are the key to building any business.”

Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?

Phillip: “Yes, by contacting me through my email address. I might not be able respond right away, but i would like to help in any way i can.”

Are you truly happy with your choice of career?

Phillip: “I am happy with my choice of career now, but it took me many years to find my passion. At first i was not very excited about my profession, but as i grew and found different way to harness my skills, doors opened up for me and the entire process turned out to be very rewarding.”

Do you seem to have a good amount of free time considering lawyers work hours are more “all around”?

Phillip: “These days i don’t have as much free time as i would like, but that is apart of being an entrepreneur, and i will likely start reducing my work hours after a few years because an optimal work/life balance is a key consideration to being both happy and healthy! You don’t want to work yourself so hard that you will burn out, because then your business will ultimately suffer, so making enough time for family, friends, and relaxation is important!
