For week 7 of precalc 11, we did our final lesson in unit 3 on discriminants and had our unit test.
The lesson on discriminants was a simple but new concept, of determining, before a quadratic is even solved, whether it is even solvable, and how many roots it will have.
We take the formula b2– 4ac from the quadratic formula that was previously under the radical sign on the numerator. Now we solve this formula and if the product is bigger than 0 it was 2 or 1 real roots if its equal to 0 it has 1 real root, and if it’s it under 0 it has no real roots.
