Adopted from the poem by Martin Niemoller “First They Came for the Jews” in response to the poem
“Danger of Silence”
First they came for the victims of cancer
and I did not speak out
because I was not victim of cancer.
Then they came for the homeless people.
and I did not speak out
because I was not a homeless person.
Then they came for the slaves
and I did not speak out
because I was not a slave.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.
