Week 1 – Math 10

One thing that I learned in Math this week, is how to do a factor tree. A factor tree is is a tool that breaks down any number into its prime factors. A certain number’s prime factorization is the list of prime numbers or prime factors that you would multiply together to create that certain number. For example, if you are trying to find the prime factors for 24, you would start by writing 24 at the top of the factor tree and then the next two numbers would be two numbers that multiply together to make 24. If your two numbers were 4 and 6 (4 x 6 = 24) then the next step would be to figure out what numbers multiply together to get 4 and 6. The next numbers in the factor tree would be 2, (2 x 2 = 4) and 3, (2 x 3 = 6). Now you have the prime factorization for 24 (2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24)
