Humanities literital studies assignment

What I Understand

What I understand about the world right now is that we are more focused on things like math and science and more understanding of them that we tend to think that poetry and Humanities are not just as important and forgets its true purpose. Even when English and Humanities doesn’t seem or feel like it was important or useful in our future, it can be important for certain things, it’s kind of like how you need both sides of your brain even though their used for different purposes, their still pretty useful. One of the first examples to explain my though is an article from The Hawkeye, (the picture), it says that “Humanities degrees are equally as important as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) degrees. Humanities departments in universities around the world, are being axed, according to The Guardian.” What their trying to say is that we need Humanities just as STEM because it effects how life works in this world and whatever or not the future will get better, because of the decisions that we make and the opinions that we share, whatever it’s good or not, and can help you make decisions that you believe will help you in the future, like whatever or not to get the COVID vaccine.  Another example is by Margarita G in her video, when she mentioned that “we need to look beneath the surface instead of allowing us to be seduced by redric, design to appeal by our ego”, pointing out that we need to see the actual purpose and understand it instead of just seeing it as a bunch of words in a piece of paper or video.  The last example is another article by Mandy Pipher, which one of the things that she said in her article was “Many of us seem to hold — consciously or not — an underlying belief that the skills gained through higher education in English are largely irrelevant to the advancement or maintenance of our society.” Which makes sense because we ignore what we think are as not important even if it’s more important than we thought, which can cause some difficulty of using critical thinking. Even though it seems that we need STEM to get through life like finding jobs and other things in life and the only way, we need humanities for life lessons and what we think which opinion is right for us. I believe that not only does humanities develop your critical thinking, but also your creativity, which I also think it’s also important because it improves how we see in the world and how we see through words or images.

Socials 11 Core Competencies

I think critical and creative thinking is my strength and stretch because even though some of the work that I did have some nice ideas and the debate and the genocide presentation went well, but also the other works I have difficulty trying to think the best ideas and how to put words together to make a good sentence/paragraph, especially the conclusion since I couldn’t think of a good way to end it
