Sold by Patricia McCormick is a book about a 13-year-old girl from Nepal called Lakshmi, that is being sold for child prostitution. The cover of the book is a picture of the young girl Lakshmi. I think that this cover is a good cover to choose from because it shows us what Lakshmi looks like. There aren’t any photos in the book, so it is nice to be able to see what she looks like. It also shows her facial expression and what she is feeling. She looks like she is in a lot of pain and struggling to get by in life. But her face also shows us determination. She looks like she is ready for whatever the world is going to throw at her next, and that she can get through it. She also looks slightly hopeful that she is going to get through this situation. I also really like that the colour of the book cover is yellow because of yellow means knowledge and learning to the Indian culture. So overall I think that this is a great cover for the book Sold because it really gives us an insight into who Lakshmi is without spoiling the book.

The cover that I chose to make for the new cover of sold is the one that I have attached down below. I made this one because without giving away what happens in the story, it shows the journey that Lakshmi has been through slightly. Lakshmi was living in the beautiful country of Nepal then was taken away to the not as nice side of India. I decided to keep the yellow title for the word sold because of how important the colour yellow is to Indian culture and I also like the way that the yellow popped out because the city colours in India were darker and the sky and the mountains in Nepal were like a light blue and white. I liked the contrast of the colours and how the title is the first thing you see because yellow is the first colour your eye can recognize. I also liked the font being bigger and right in the middle. That makes it very clear to read and easy to see the title. I know not all of India looks like the picture I chose, but that is what the part of India that Lakshmi was taken to looks like so I wanted the picture to be as real and close to what it would have looked like in real life.
