For ADL we were told to review a science app. I chose to review an app called Electronic Circuit Constructor. This app visually shows how electricity flows through circuits. Some questions I had to see how well this app teaches circuits were:
What kind aspect of science does this app focus on?
Is this app easy to use?
Does this app teach you useful content to know?
Does it actually teach you science or does it just show you science and doesn’t tell you what it is?
Can it be used on the go?
Does it track your progress?
Is it fun?
This app focuses mostly on electric circuits and the objects needed to construct them. It is a relatively intuitive app where all you have to do is click and drag the parts onto the board. This app shows you the path electricity takes and tells you what each object is when you click on it. There are different ways of viewing the circuit. You could chose the one with colour and where each part of the circuit is represented by a picture of it. There is also one where every thing is represented with lines and symbols.
This app isn’t the most effective teaching device as it doesn’t track your progress and it isn’t like a fun game with challenges. It does tell you what the parts are, but doesn’t do the best job at explaining what it is. It doesn’t do the greatest job at teaching different types of circuits either, however, you eventually do learn by yourself what circuits light the bulb or what kind of circuit saves electricity.
This app does not require Wi-Fi but, it might not be your first choice of what you might use in a car ride. It really is just putting different parts on the board and seeing what happens. I think that if it had challenges or levels it might be a bit more fun to play around with, because of this, I give this app a total of 3 out of 5 stars.
