The COL/English assignment that we had to do involved us making a graphic novel, extracting the main points of the play, as well as adding text, customizing characters, and etc. These following are the points that I put in the play, I think that I got a good idea of the main idea and the points already so it didn’t take too much time. But, the play starts off with Theseus and Hippolyta announcing that they will be getting married shortly in about 4 days. Then, we switch over to Hermia and Lysander where we find that Hermia wants to be with Lysander but her father wants her to be with Demetrius, so Hermia and Lysander decide to run away. Unfortunately, Helena is stuck in a one-sided position because she likes Demetrius but he doesn’t like her at all, and so when Hermia decides to tell Helena that her and Lysander will be running away, Helena takes this opportunity in telling Demetrius to try and get his attention towards her. Then we switch over to a group of 6 mechanicals who are planning on performing a play for the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta. Bottom is one of the mechanicals and always is interupting Quince who is the mechanical announcing all of the roles for the play. We then switch over again to Oberon to Titania, who are arguing because of a little Indian boy which Titania refuses to hand over to Oberon. Out of emotion, Oberon sends his fairy Puck to find love juice (which makes someone love the first thing they see when they wake up) so that he can put them Titania’s eyes, and he tells Puck to put the love juice on the eyes of Demetrius’s. Unfortunately for Puck, he accidentally mixes up Demetrius and Lysander and puts the flower juice on the wrong person. Now, both Demetrius and Lysander are both in love with Helena because of the flower juice. When Titania decides to sleep, Oberon now puts the flower juice on Titania’s eyes, and when she wakes up she falls in love with Bottom, but Bottom now has a donkey head due to the fact that Puck transformed his head while the mechanicals were practicing their play. Now we head to the climax, where Demetrius and Lysander are fighting over Helena, and Hermia is very confused. But, Helena thinks that this is all a joke that they’re playing and she gets very mad. Demetrius and Lysander are willing to fight for Helena’s love, Oberon realizes what Puck has done wrong, and orders Puck to undo the spell which he does. How does he do this? When Demetrius and Lysander are going to fight in the woods, Oberon has Puck to create a fog so that they cannot see, and act as Puck is Demetrius/Lysander. Then, they fall asleep and he undoes the spell. Also, now Bottom’s head is turned to normal, and when Oberon undoes the spell on Titania because she gave him the Indian boy, Titania wakes up confused because before the spell was undone, Titania was in love with Bottom with the donkey head, and she would do anything for him. Everything is back to normal now, when Demetrius, Lysander, Hermia, and Helena are awake and after a bit of time at their wedding, they decide to show the play that the mechanicals were planning on performing for them, and the story ends. So there’s all the main parts of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
