Now that the country of Canada has been created, work will begin on acquiring more land and territory into the country.  Ottawa looks to the West and hopes to acquire a large area of land called Rupert’s Land.  But this land is not vacant – First Nations, Metis, and European settlers live here and the fur trade is central to life.

Let’s begin Unit 6 by learning more about the fur trade and its 2 rival companies in Rupert’s Land.
