My Mutation Story

imageMy Mutation Story

I am a gene in my host, his name is Alex. Alex suffers from a mutation called Nager Syndrome. I am a rare condition that mostly attacts the progression of growth in the face, hands, and arms. When you get affected by me makes have very weak bones. Sometimes people I have infected start developing vertebral anomalies such as scioliosis, which could lead to back pain for life.

Because I am such a rare syndrome, its difficult to study genetic research. However some other studies indicate that I may be passed down from a parent to their offspring. Throught the world with close to 7 billion people I am only affecting only a little bit more over one hundred.

Some symptoms of having me are a small lower jaw, a cleft pallet, eyes slanting downward, short fore arms, very large forehead. And I have also caused people to lose their hearing. Some symptoms of my mutation that aren’t common are abnormalties of the heart, and kidney, genitalia, and urinary tract.

Part 2:

1. I researched the affects to the host’s body, what causes this mutation, the different treatments for nager syndrome.

2. I used videos from YouTube because it helped me gain a better understanding of what Nager syndrome really is. I also used websites like “Genetics Home Reference”.

3. My process to investigate this project was to watch videos and look at pictures of people severely affected by this mutation and it really helped me understand how severe it can end up being and how life altering it could potentially be. I tried to put my mind into what it would be like to actually be a genetic mutation so that I could let the ideas flow.

4. The main cite that I used was a certified website “U.S. National Library of Medicine” and I confirmed that information by checking various different sources to confirm that the information is correct.

I think this process went very well because I now have a thorough understanding of the affects and what Nager syndrome is. I could have organized my ideas in a more convenient manner but overall I feel as though I did a great  presenting my findings.
