Community Connections

I interviewed Ashif Jiwa and his profession is a Principal at Porter Ementary School in Port Coquitlam.

Question 1. Why are you passionate about your job?

I get to work with children every single day. I get to go to a job that I get to make positive influences and impacts on staff and children and parents. There’s nothing better than knowing that I have done my best to help a student be their best.

Question 2. What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today?

There are obstacles that come across my way often… I try to keep what’s important to me close to my heart to overcome those obstacles. Sometimes appropriate funding. Appropriate resources. Not enough supports. Those are all examples of obstacles.

Question 3. What advice would you pass on to someone interested in doing your job?

Make sure you get into education for the right reason. It can’t be for the time off or the perceived 9 to 3 hours. You need to enjoy working with children have patience flexibility passion. Or else his job isn’t for you. 

Question 4. What education did you have to go through to get this job?

I have a bachelors in physical education. I have a bachelors in education. I have a Masters in educational leadership.

Question 5. What are your favorite parts about this job?

Image result for kidsWhen I get to play with children. At lunch or recess going outside and shooting the ball with them on the soccer field. Ball hockey in the gym. Hanging out with the kindergartens in their class during center time. I love meeting families in the morning when they are coming to school. 

Question 6. Would you be open to further contact from other Riverside students and if so, how would someone contact you?

Yes of course.
