My grammar rule was complex and compound/complex sentences. A complex sentence is made up of 1 independent and 1 dependent clause and are brought together by a conjunction. An example of a complex sentence is “Because the winter is cold, I like to sit inside and drink hot coco.” This is a example because the “because the winter is cold” is a dependent clause as it is not a complete thought and the “I like to sit inside and drink hot cocoa” is a independent because it is a complete clause. A compound/complex is a sentence is made up of 2 independent and 1 dependent clause. An example of this is “Though Mitchell prefers watching romantic films, he rented the latest spy thriller, and he enjoyed it very much.” This is an example because it has two independent clauses (Though Mitchell prefers watching romantic films and he rented the latest spy thriller) and one dependent clause (he enjoyed it very much)An independent clause is a string of words that has a subject and a verb and is a complete thought. An example is “The president arrived” which has both a verb and a subject and is a complete thought. A dependent clause is a string of words that has a subject and a verb but is not a complete thought. An example is “When the sun sets” which has both a verb and a subject but isn’t a complete thought. There is one more component called a compound sentence which is 2 or more independent clauses put together with a conjunction. An example of this is “The president arrived when the sun went down.”
