Indigenous Podcast – “Voicing the Silenced”

AUDIO

During the time of research on this project, I was overwhelmed with sadness finding out all these horrific tragedies happened to such young and bright aboriginal teens. I looked at a couple cases and say that about 1 case every 7 seems to get solved, the rest are either just thrown out or no evidence was found about the crime. It seems to me some RCMP members overlook these horrid cases a little. However, there are still great people in the world that are working everyday to make these young woman feel safer in their life, which they should feel. This project was an eye opener for me and I hope one day I can too do my part in making the community for aboriginal teens and women feel safer.

Advertising Target Markets

In the 2010 commercial by Ikea, “Start Something new” it is a catchy commercial that clicks in with your emotions. This commercial has an advertising technique called plain folk, this shows that any random old man or a regular person can try something new and live their life to the fullest without being rich or an athlete. Another advertising technique that Ikea used is emotional appeal, showing the pure joy this man had while traveling the world and finding beautiful things. It also shows how a grumpy man who lives the same life everyday can change and find pure happiness. With all the connections he made with people around the world and the adventures that he went on, he became a more happy person. When the man came back home, he showed off his new adventures to his friends that were still doing the same thing they were doing before he left. The target audience seems to be for the average person, Ikea didn’t focus much on them, but focused that life is too short to sit around, that life should be lived.

Socials 10 Essay – Cole McDonell

Government Essay

Cole McDonell

What should Canada do to improve our democracy?

Canada is known for being on of the most free country’s in the world. They are a democratic country giving everyone above the age of 18 the right to vote, but do the votes represent everyone? In the short answer, no, but is it really Canadas governments fault?

About 64% of Canadians vote, leaving almost half of Canada not voting. If only half of Canada are making all the decisions, then the voting doesn’t represent what everyone is things like it should in a democracy. Most people don’t vote because nothing appeals or helps them. If a charity isn’t doing anything good, why donate? Same as voting in elections. The lack of appeal is usually from the younger adults’, from ages 18-24 have the lowest voting persons.

Ages from 50 to 70 have the most polls submitted while voting so the party that wins the election will probably best represent people of older age and not younger people. Not everyone wants to vote, which is fine, weather your too uneducated on the matter or simply don’t care enough, its your right not to vote.

A way to get higher voting numbers is making a law forcing every person to vote. This takes away a big freedom of our country but if we want our government to represent everyone, this is the most efficient way of doing so. In Belgium, the voter turn out was about %90 of the population, the reason the country has so many voters is because voting there is mandatory. If

In conclusion, The more educated voters, the better. If party’s want to get there votes up, appeal to younger voters and what would benefit them. Were lucky we live in Canada and have the right to vote or not, we as the people choose who governs our country. Voting makes your voice heard!

Short Story to Interned Based Article – “Evil Monkey Robot”

Human, Chimp, or Robot?

Cole Mcdonell

A monkey named Sly at the Oxiland Research Lab has been creating a large amount of unusual problems recently. After pressure from media, the scientists at Oxiland Research Lab released information that the  monkey is one of the first cybernetic organismic monkey mixes. Due to Sly being the first of his type, scientists can’t fully understand the way he acts causing commotions between the monkey and humans, as well other chimps.

Chimp Parallels Human’s Intelligence

The average human intelligence is around 85-115, a study shown by many respected researchers all agree on these results. Chimps are known for being smart but not capable of processing thoughts and actions as well as humans, except Sly, the electronic chip installed in his brain provides him with advanced thinking and feelings sharper than the average person.

The only time a monkey like this has been seen was in a chimp named Natasha, she naturally had a smarter mind and scientists crowned her as the smartest chimp in the world. Natasha had an apparent intelligence is 90, the highest seen by a great ape until now.

There is no released information that explains if Sly was smarter than the average chimp before the scientists worked on him, but with the implant of the chip, Sly has tested to have the IQ of 152, ranking as a genius amongst humans.

Worlds Smartest Chimp is Blood Hungry

Sly the chimp is far beyond the average intelligence of a monkey, way beyond the average human even. Having the electronic chip installed in his brain affect how he acts out very extra. Since the scientists tried to boost the brainstem and cerebrum of the chimp, everything in his head is amplified, including emotions.

Researchers have been studying how his emotions very closely and are shocked at the results. When Sly is sad he completely changes his whole personality and day around that mood, when Sly was at his saddest he didn’t eat for 4 days and tried hitting his head on walls and bars, almost as if he was trying to self harm.

When Sly is happy its very easy to tell too, he smiles non stop until his mood changes, his personality is very loving when he’s happy, doing things like trying to share food with the researches and obsessing over things given to him, trying to show his appreciation for it.

When the chimp is mad, things start going downhill fast. Sly is not able to control his emotions well and his head is full of hormones that boost his anger. Sly the chimp is in almost a frenzie when he’s mad. Scientists at the lab leave his eyesight and wait for him to calm down which reportedly takes around 40 minutes.

Sly does many things while angry, including:

-destroying beloved items

-hitting head against walls (acts of self harm)

-shouting, almost screaming

-on a lighter sided note, he also throws his own poop as a way of taking out anger.

Sly is a fascination of a chimp and a lead experiment in todays science scene. With all the anger and problems with Sly, he is a smart, loving chimp that is going to help scientists rocket in their learnings cybernetic orgasmic research.

Part 2

For this project, I turned the short story “Evil Monkey Robot” into a online article. At some times this was a challenging task to do, the short story we read was brief and wasn’t too in detail, leaving me to create a bigger and more detailed story.

I made sure to remind my readers that Sly “the chimp in the story” isn’t just a robot lab rat, and that he is a confused and scared chimp struggling with his emotions. Online articles mainly consist of the same things which I had o work with and tweak my article to fit, they need catchy headlines, short paragraphs that get strait to  the point, and easily finable subjects of the story. Sounds easy enough right? Its hard to convert a very short worded and brief story into all that, so I caught myself using my imagination to complete most of this, with the base idea being the short story, then the rest being more detailed and interesting than the original plot.

This project really made me use my creative writing skills and i really enjoyed having to think of what would work well in m article.

Practice Film Review – “Short Fuse”

A Short Fuse For A Saved Man

Cole McDonell

Although the short, “Short Fuse” written by Rafanan Michael Robert UY has very little words, this tale tells a story of hope, despair, friendship, and forgiveness all shown in 7 minutes and 9 seconds of run time.

For the beautiful looks and greatly done animation in the short film, it dreadly lacks in music, the music seems to go off at random times and sounds like what is played in a 70s disco party.

The animation starts on an abandoned earth in 2160, with garbage and a handful of scavengers left to make up the once populated planet.

The story follows a young man scavenger who finds a “clean bot” while looking through the dumps, he brings the clean bot back to his home and gets it booted up, once the bot is turned on it marks the scavenger as “trash” and attempts to throw the man away, its just almost two minutes of dry laughs that would only entertain people watching under the age of 7.

The boy gives up and tries to take the bot back to the dump, when a toxic storm comes, they are almost left for dead, the robot might not be use less after all.

Newspaper Practice – “Harrison Bergeron”

Teen Shot Dead On Live TV

By Cole McDonell

A young man named Harrison attacked guards and escaped from jail this Monday, and made his way to the ballerina studio to dance with the ballerinas and free others from the chains he took off as well until being caught and shot by the handicap general.

The Local58 news channel is under fire this week as a live broadcast was hijacked by local boy who escaped from prison.

The boy had taken off his handicaps that were put on him by the government and threatened to kill the other children at the studio.

According to the 213 amendment of the United States, Harrison had committed a stage 7 crime which is a penalty by death.

The mother of this boy was shattered in tears this morning, “He was too young to be taken from this place, he had so much potential” Said Hazel Bergeron the mother.

Since Harrison ripped off his handicaps for the whole town to see, there have been 7 more reported cases of men and women under the age of 18 doing the same thing, they have been punished by death but what they did will not go unheard of.
