Community Connection Alternate

Volunteer opportunity:

Children Services

  • The volunteer opportunity I’m researching is the Children Services position at Hyde creek community centre. The type of things you do in this position is mainly helping with activities involving children like afterschool programs, preschool programs, pizza parties, etc.
  • This volunteering opportunity could enhance my skills communicating with children and learning how they act. This could be very useful knowledge to have in the future.
  • I am passionate about getting involved in this field because you work with children. This opportunity gives me experience on working with children, and when I have my own family in the future, I’ll already have knowledge on how to take care of kids.

Job Opportunity:

Starbucks Barista

  • The Job opportunity I’m researching is a Barista position at a Starbucks. The things you do as a Starbucks barista include taking customers orders, making coffee, tea, and other drinks to customer specifications. Baristas can also work the cash register, and operate credit card machines. They may field customer complaints or questions, as well.
  • This employment would benefit my future because it would teach me to use a mix of online learning, classroom training, and hands on mentorship in a work environment. I will also learn how to be persistent and work together with my fellow employees, all whilst giving the customers the best experience they could get.
  • To be able to qualify for this job, you would need to have a flexible range of hours that you are available to work in, that could range from early mornings to weekends, and/or nights.
  • Having good social skills is a key factor to being a barista, as you will need to make connections with the customers and follow up on all of their special requests to give them the best experience.
  • The first steps you would need to take to become suitable for this position is to have an open mindset, as you will need to take in a lot of information on how to cook the items on the menu. You would also learn how to prepare the food and beverages to suite the customer’s needs.
