My main topic is “How has math evolved over the course of history” I believe that my bigger questions that come from my presentations are theological and will continue to evolve and never truly be answered, for example “How can we use our past to predict future advancement.” This project helped me develop a critical thinking competencies because I had to branch out how I research in the sense that I had to read a few ebooks on the topic. It also helped me develop my cultural awareness because I was able to put myself into the shoes of the other cultures to see why they would want to develop some mathematical ideas and technologies.
I found this project pretty easy because we were given a lot of useful shapes to work with and my main strategy was copy pasting equations so that I could get exact measurements. I also asked you and one other student a quick question and managed to use the information to finish my work. This project helped me understand how converting equations onto a graph works and helped me become more comfortable with doing so.
Me and my partner Emma stood 5 meters away from the flagpole and using a clinometer we found that the angle was 60 degrees. We were trying to find the height of the flagpole and because we had the distance we were away from the flagpole we had to use the Tangent ratio to determine that the height of the flagpole was approximately 10.23 meters.
