About Me

Welcome to a new school year!  Hopefully the transition back to a school routine is going smoothly for both you and your child, especially during these challenging times.  I know how difficult it can be trying to get your teenager out of bed in the morning when they have become accustomed to sleeping in over the summer.  As you have most likely been made aware of from your child, my name is Mrs. Durand and I am a teacher at Riverside Secondary School. I have been teaching in Coquitlam for 29 years and have experience at the high school, middle and elementary levels.  I completed my undergrad BSc. and BEd at UBC and my graduate program in Technology in Education at S.F.U.

I absolutely love teaching.  I feel so fortunate to be able to work with students and do the job I love.  I am very dedicated to help students find their passion in life.  I also believe that students need to develop strong leadership skills, become hard workers, collaborate with others, and become good problem solvers.

Along with teaching, I am also passionate about my family.  My husband Bryan is also a high school teacher in the district and teaches at Heritage Woods Secondary.  He and I have two children.  My eldest daughter is Sara who is now 25 who recently graduated from UVIC in psychology and is currently taking her Master’s in Clinical Psychology.  My second daughter Alexa who is 23 completed her B.Sc. in Human Kinetics and is now working on her getting her doctorate to become a chiropractor.   I can’t believe how quickly the time goes by!  Sara and Alexa are very involved in the sports world.  Sara played both soccer and basketball throughout her high school years and plays both sports recreationally at the university.  Both daughters also waterski competitively and Alexa played volleyball at her high school and for the Coquitlam Ducks.

Please feel free to call me at the school or email me at cdurand@sd43.bc.ca if you have any questions.

Looking forward to a great year!

Claudia Durand
