ETEC 511 – Final Paper: Exploring the Idea of Open Educational Resources For K – 12 Classrooms from Socio-Political Perspectives

While you can teach with your door closed and without any help from others, I believe you would be much better served by approaching teaching like a team sport. Two heads are better than one! This paper was based on my choice of topics – I chose to look at Open Educational Resources because like practicing a sport I believe sharing your skills, tips, and resources makes everyone better.

Abstract:
Following the example set by Open Source Software, Open Educational Resources (OER) can help make quality education possible for everyone. While OERs already exist in the case of public schools, unfortunately, the materials are scattered, challenging to find and use, and do not have the guarantees that ensure their value. This research will focus on OERs and their possible applications in K – 12 classrooms, the advantages for teachers, and their potential to increase professional growth.
