This is me and my groups idea for a new periodic table if we had to change it.
We had to find a different way to have the periodic table laid out/ designed.
Some of the first questions we asked were, Are we still going to use groups and periods, Is it going to be a 3d shape of a 2d shape, How are we going to group them together, Is it going to be more colourful, Is it going to be an irregular shape or not. Then we were wondering Are we going to have it “split up” into 2 sections like it is now, Are we going to change the numbers order and will we change the letter symbols. Those were all the main questions that I was wondering.
The one thing that we really wanted to happen is it to be in a regular shape not like it is now. Then to have the unknown elements separated somehow if it had to be broken up. Then if we could change the letter symbols so the first letter matches the first letter of the category. Then also put all the non-metals, metalloids and metals all in there own small “groups” in the shape. Then have all of it labeled by colour as well.
We chose to make it one big rectangle with all six unknown elements by themselves in their own rectangle. We labeled the metals, non-metals, metalloids an unknown elements different colours. We also added a lower case n in front of all non-metals so they are easier to know what they are by the first letter.
I think that we could have added more colour to it. I think that if we also labeled the Noble gases, Halogens, Alkali metals and Alkaline metals then it would be easier to find them in some ways. I also think that I would be nice if we added another letter in front of the metalloids so, you don’t even need them to have color to know right away what is a metal and what is either a non-metal or a metalloid.
