April 11th Meeting Summary

  1. Report card reflections due to me via email by FRIDAY.

 

  1. Resilience Day workshops – meeting on Tuesday April 17 during lunchtime (room to be decided) to introduce the idea of the workshop and explain how to sign up to the international students. Ms. Ottens came by today at lunchtime to invite us all to participate and also to spread the word to others. 

 

  1. Special guest – Ms. Chin came by to explain about a special gold ticket that would allow a chance at a free dinner/dance ticket………how should we decide who can compete for this ticket?  Let’s meet to discuss this………I will email the Gr. 12 students……How many Gr. 12 students are going to dinner/dance??  I hope you all will be going, that is my most favourite evening of the year!!

 

  1. Anime Poster Contest –  rules and criteria and judging to be decided………….Rianna please send me the criteria etc that you had posted on the TV at RAP time.

 

 

  1. Haiku poetry contest – Ms. Yamamoto will email teachers and promote this contest for haiku poems in different languages with English translations

 

  1. Movie Night – Friday April 27th in room 214………we’ll have snacks.  Jonadan has a list of movies he will send to me.  I will send them out to you so we can decide quickly next week.

 

 

  1. Farewell dinner/anime festival/spring festival format – I was thinking of ordering food for everyone and maybe we can make some desserts or snacks?  We could have henna booths, as that was very popular and fun, we could have performers, cosplay café or games?  We could decorate the cafeteria using last year’s beautiful decorations as well as the anime posters and haiku poems. 

 

  1. ML wind up activity – picnic?  Hike? 

 

 

  1. Exit interviews – for all ML students regardless of if you are taking this course for marks or not.   I would like to chat with you and find out how you felt about contributing to this program and if you feel there could be more things possible for ML!

 

  1. Book club – let’s start discussing Anne of Green Gables!

 

 

  1. Anime Club – on Friday at lunchtime and we need to organize the anime poster contest..  all those interested in participating or organizing please come at lunchtime on Friday.

Announcement to ML students

  • Sign up for our UBC field trip! No cost to you as I will pay for the bus etc.
    • Date : March 2
    • Time : 9:00 – 3:00
  • If anyone is interested in tutoring for science and math, please tell Ms. Yamamoto
  • There will be an Open Gym for international students on Mondays at lunchtime.
    • If ML students can help out to set up the badminton nets etc. and supervise that would be great

Visa Renewal 2018

Hello, international students! As there are many of you who wants to extend your study visa, the Multicultural Leadership will show you how to do it.

There are two ways you can apply!

1. Apply Online

To extend your study VISA online you must have access to a scanner or camera to create electronic copies of your documents for uploading and have a valid credit card for payment.

First, click on this link. https://www.ca

nada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/come-canada-tool.html

Second, click on “Check your eligibility.” In order to apply online, you have to go through the process of checking if you are eligible or not to receive the visa again.

Third, answer all the questions.

Fourth, it will show you that if you are able to get the study visa or not, after you complete answering the questions. Then, click the “Continue” that is written in the Study Permit box.

Fifth, you will be able to see your document checklist and the further steps on renewing the visa online.

Note: If you provide an email address on your application, please ensure you check it regularly for automated emails from CIC regarding your case. Some spam filters block these emails, and clients are requested to ensure emails from CIC are not blocked. If you are unsure whether emails from CIC are being sent, please check your myCIC account on a regular basis.

 

2. Apply on Paper

Second, you will find links to the documents which will help you receive the visa. 

Third, you will also find the steps on how to apply on paper.

Additional information

  • If you apply for a renewal of your study permit, and the permit expires before you receive an answer, you can continue to study in Canada under the same conditions until you receive a decision.
  • You should apply to renew your study permit if you intend to travel outside Canada and your permit will expire while you are travelling.
  • You cannot extend your study permit beyond the expiry date on your passport.
  • If your study permit has expired, and you have not applied for an extension, you must leave Canada.

Announcement to Multicultural Leadership Students!

  • If you haven’t done an interview with Ms. Yamamoto please go see her. Tomorrow will be the last day to do it.

 

  • Jan.22 and 23  new international students tour at 9 : 30 AM. If anyone is willing to to help out for about half an hour on these days contact Ms. Yamamoto!

 

  • Please send Ms. Yamamoto reflections on any contribution you have made to ML this year so far. The reflection will be a part of your marks.

 

  • Feb. 6 at 3:00 PM. There will be new international students’ orientation. Please let Ms. Yamamoto know if you can help out maybe with the games or some food.

 

  • Digital workshop – Mr. Gee will help to get edublogs set up for the new studetns but he would like some help. Please let Ms.Yamamoto know if you will have a spare block anytime next semester? Or your teacher may be able to excuse you for one period? The plan is to visit the new students in the EAL classes which will be happening in every block. It would be nice to have a variety of languages… Korean, Mandarin, Farsi maybe?

    • Admission tickets and rental fees are free.
    • Also, there will be PIZZA and HOT CHOCOLATE!!!!!

  • Is anyone interested in creating a PowerPoint for the upcoming Gr.8 tour? We will have a station in Ms. Yamamoto’s room and she needs some information to advertise the Japanese classes and Multicultural Leadership.

 

  • ML is starting to plan for the Middle East Festival. If anyone would be interested in helping or have any great ideas (decorations/ performances) tell Ms. Yamamoto!
