Digital footprint

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? give at least two examples.

I did a google search of myself and found that there were images of me that I had no idea were online. At the moment the only images I could find were of me at sporting events. However, it makes me wonder if there could be other images of me online that I don’t know about. Maybe pictures of me that other people took and I didn’t even know. I believe your digital footprint could affect your future opportunities in positive and negative ways. One negative way it could impact your future opportunities is if you post bad stuff like going to parties and drinking at a young age. Pictures like this could suggest that you are irresponsible or you’re the kind of person that could get yourself into an inappropriate situation. When a company is looking at your digital footprint and sees pictures of you partying it could make it look like you’re irresponsible and might be the type of person to blow off school assignments or work to go mess around at a party. A positive way it could affect your future opportunities is if you post good stuff like if you graduated or pictures of your family. Your future employers could see these images and know that you’re the type of person that values important aspects of life like family and education.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

The first way you can help keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe is to act responsibly. If you were to go to a party you have to make sure you don’t get drunk and act stupid so people won’t take photos of you and post them online. The second way is to make sure you know what you’re posting online. Even if you post something on a private instagram account people see it and it gets out to the public so you have to be responsible with what you post or say online no matter what the circumstances are. The third most important way to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe is to always check and make sure your privacy setting are set the way you think they should be. Like the video said if you’re going to be active on social media remember your privacy settings can change without you knowing it. So it’s very important to go back and check on a regular basis to make sure your personal information is safe and private.

What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

First of all I didn’t realize there were images of me online that were posted without me knowing about it. So the first thing I would tell other students is to google themselves regularly and see what’s out there. If there’s anything out there that you didn’t know about and is troubling they need to follow up on the source and have it removed. Second of all I would remind them that their privacy settings can change without them knowing it and I would tell them to make sure they don’t change and keep their accounts private.
