What aspects of your work are successful? Explain why.
The use of Instagram stories has been very successful. We can use stories to quickly share announcements or events with its followers. While normal posts may not show up in people’s Instagram feed for a couple of days, the story ensures that people will see it right away. Whatever is posted to this Instagram story will only last for 24 hours, however there is a new option that allows people to save stories so it can be viewed over and over again.
What aspects of your work is challenging? Explain why.
We want to showcase the many different attributes of Riverside but it can become very challenging to do so at times. For example, a class may go on a very interesting field trip but since there aren’t any members of the social media team in that class, we may not know about the field trip and therefore not post about it.
What steps did you take to overcome these challenges / what adjustments did you need to make?
We reached out to the student body to help us. Instead of a small group of people trying to cover the entire school, students were asked to submit photos they would like us to share. For example, school teams can submit photos and updates on their progress. Clubs can showcase the cool activities they partake in.
Is there anything you can do improve? (with your approach to the project, or altering the project)
I want to add a bit more consistency to the account. Something that people consistently look out for. For example, at the start of every month we can create a post listing all the important upcoming events. I believe this would encourage people to check the account regularly as well as increase the amount of followers.
Do you have any feedback or suggestions, as we move forward, that could help the Tech Team meet the needs of our school and staff?
I think we should start to stream more events like we did for the spoken word festival. It’s a very cool feature that people will definitely appreciate. Especially with our new cameras, there is a lot of great potential.
