I interviewed Brad Strelau who is the pastor at CA Church:Port Campus in Port Coquitlam. It is his job to prepare a sermon for each Sunday along with helping others through tough times. He is also asked to speak at weddings and funerals. I chose to interview this individual because I am interested in this job; it has qualities that I believe suit me.
I continue to believe that this job would suit me, there are ups and downs to this employment but the ups would be greater than the downs.
Q: Why are you passionate about your job?
I love that I am able to walk with people through the big events of their lives. I get to be a part of marriages, child dedications, but also hospital visits and funerals.
Q: What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today?
I have my education in biblical studies and have spent many years volunteering locally and in other countries.
Q: What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?
Make sure you have your family as first priority! Doing pastoral work can be very stressful physically, spiritually, and emotionally. If you are not careful to carefully structure your time, it can steal from family
Q: Would you be open to further contact Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?
Of course!! firstname.lastname@example.org
Q: What is the worst part of your job?
Doing funerals for tragic deaths; (i.e. child with cancer, accident, fentanyl, etc)
Q: Do you think I would do well at this job? Be honest.
Not at 14, but I definitely see the potential for ministry in the future. You have the ability to sympathize and show genuine care for others.
