Analysis of

Steam originally launched as a way to automatically update games developed by Valve in September 2003. Valve not only made the Steam platform, but also created some of the most iconic games to date: Half-Life, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. The intended age group is 13+. Valve also created its own operating system later, and named it "SteamOS". Steam is currently rivaled with the “Epic Games Store”. Developers are choosing to release their games on the Epic Games Store because the store takes around 12% of revenue from developers while steam takes around 20-30% depending on game sales.  Steam makes revenue by taking 30% of the revenue that developers make from games. However, if a game manages to make over ten million in sales, developers get to keep an extra 5% of their revenue. Steam is currently a platform where people can purchase games from a large variety of developers and companies, making it one of if not the best way to purchase and play video games. Steam also sells virtual reality games and has virtual reality support with most virtual reality headsets. This includes their own brand of virtual reality headset. Steam uses different coding languages for different services. For example, the app uses C++ while the website and market uses php. Valve would not exist if we didn’t have Microsoft. Valve was created by Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington, who both worked at Microsoft for over ten years, and both had the dream to start their own gaming company, hence, Valve was born.
