Analysis of “TikTok”

The most downloaded application in 2019 was TikTok, not Facebook, not Instagram, or other big social media. So, what makes TikTok different from other applications, “TikTok is a video-driven social media platform. The difference is, there is no alternative form of content such as text-based posts or static images. … Similarly, to other platforms users can use and search hashtags to find common content” (Sharp 2019). TikTok was released in September 2016, and two years after it was released worldwide with musical.ly. It is owned by a Chinese tech company. When it was first made the purpose was user-specified videos that mixed popular songs with the video from the users but now TikTok has gone more broadway videos like sending a social message or important news and in the future people are saying “They will also make the platform more marketing-friendly for the brand in order to establish the app as a social network that is going to stay(Influencer Marketing Hub 2020). Now the people are going to think that how do TikTok makes money? Well, they make money by using coins that start from 100 for 0.99. users can use the coins by giving it to their favorite creators, that they can turn to exchange them for digital gifts and of course they get paid by advertisers. The intended age group is 13 but between 16-24 is the most used age group for TikTok. Before downloading there are some slang words that people must know such as oop, Periodt, Fire, Shade, Rad, Flex, Slay, Lit, and Stand there is some other jargon word but these are the word people most use. Fun fact about. “TikTok is that it has 800 million active users worldwide and it was ranked as the topmost downloaded app in Apple’s IOS App Store for Q1 2019, with more than 33million downloads” (Fans of “celebpie” 2020).
