Reader Response: “Harrison Bergeron”.

A.      What is ironic about George’s comments on competition, laws, and society in the story? Support your opinions with evidence from the text. You may incorporate quotes if you find necessary, but this is not required.

·         George’s comments on competition, laws, and society was very ironic because hazel said “that was a real pretty, that dance they just did’ said Hazel (59 Vonnegut)” huh?” said George later in the story George went to stay” he tried to think a little about the ballerinas. They weren’t very good. No better then anybody else would have.” So, competition was very little because everyone was handicap witch their heavy bag weighing them down so they could move so gracefully and everyone at the same amount of skill because of being handicap. George’s comment about law was ironic because he was all for the law but his son was the biggest outlaw there was.

B.      Describe George and Hazel’s reactions at the end of the story. What do you think the author is trying to say through them?

·          George and hazel’s reaction at the end of the story was sad because hazel was watching TV when George left the room and she started crying because she just seen her son get shot but she didn’t know that was her son and her emotion knew what happened but her brain didn’t pick up and she started crying about and she didn’t know why. George reaction was little because he didn’t see what happen but he walked into the room and hazel was crying. The author is trying to say even if your brain washed you still can sense when bad things happens to your family.
