Cremation of Sam Mcgee Questions

  1. You know that theme is the message the author wants you, the reader, to walk away from this poem with. What is the message/theme Robert Service is trying to share with you? Be able to support your theme with evidence from the poem.

One of the themes in the Poem would be to never go back on your word.

“” So I want you to swear that, foul or fair, you’ll cremate my last remains.” A pal’s last need is a thing to heed, so I swore I would not fail”

  1. What does this passage mean to you, “In the days to come, though my lips were dumb, in my heart how I cursed that load!”

It means that in the following days even though he was cold and he didn’t want to go out of his way to cremate Sam but he had to.

  1. In your opinion, why didn’t Cap go back on his promise? Sam would have never known!

Because Cap’s friendship with Sam was more important to him than anything and he wouldn’t be able to live with the fact that he didn’t fulfill his promise to Sam.

  1. What really happened when Cap opened that boiler? Did he really see the ghost of Sam? Was he hallucinating? What do you think, and why do you think this?

When you are out in the cold for a long time and the boiler opened was probably really hot so the sudden change in tempeture caused a hallucination almost like a Mirage in the desert.
