Digital Footprint

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?

Your digital footprint may affect your future opportunities by either helping you or making your opportunities harder to achieve. For example, let’s say that you post a very positive video about how you are going to go to the beach and clean up the trash. When an opportunity comes around, your employer will search you up on the internet and when they find that positive video about you they will most likely hire you because that video was positive. Example B: let’s say that you go on Twitter and you see that someone Tweeted a a massage that you didn’t like. So then you decide to re-Tweet them and respond to that Tweet in a very aggressive way. The next time an opportunity strikes, your employer may nit hire you because of those mean Tweets you posted. The point that I am trying to make is that you should only post positive things on your social networks because if you post negative things, they may come back to haunt you.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe

Strategy number 1: Keep your online accounts private or if you decide to make your account public make sure that you do not post any negative content. This leads me to my next strategy which is to not post any negative content. It is very important to not post any negative content because it could come back to haunt you when you are applying for a job or something similar. My final strategy is to keep your emotions out of your posts or comments if your emotions are negative. This is because sometimes when we get really mad, angry or upset it is very easy for us to post a mean or offensive post or comment and offensive comments. These posts and comments are not needed and they won’t help anyone. In conclusion don’t post anything negative because it will comeback to haunt you.

What information did you learn that you would pass on to another student? How would you go about telling them?

Information that I would pass on to another student would probably be that you should be vary careful about who you let follow you or who you talk with online because I feel like this is one of the most important thing I could say not only to a student but anyone in general. I would probably just come out strong and say that you need to be careful about who you talk to on the internet. I would then say that if you are going to talk to strangers, make sure that you do not give any personal information away. Giving personal information away is basically like giving you identity to someone and saying “here use this, this one’s on me!” So yeah! I honestly think that is all I have to say.
