how to find the length of an oblique line

To find the length of an oblique line you have to use the Pythagorean theorem.

to do this the formula is

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

A= horizontal line of triangle

B= vertical line of triangle

C= hypotenuse

so the first step would be to turn the oblique line into a triangle by adding a point.

you will then find the coordinates.

to find sides A and B you have to subtract the x coordinates and the difference is the length of A. To get the length of B you subtract the coordinates on the y axis.

my coordinates are (8,3) and (5,-2):

8-5

3+2

a= 3

b=5

now we use Pythagorean theorem to find c so

3^2 + 5^2 = c^2

9+25=34

then just square root c and you get the length of your oblique line.
