Burgers I Would Kill For

Tapas! Where the god of burgers would go to eat a decent burger. Tapas is located in a very crowded, specially in the weekends, area of Tehran, called Andarzgo Boulevard. When you go there, you will see a very narrow street, will hear cars honking at each other, and the people in them are saying a lot of “not very nice words” to each other. But that’s pretty much what happens in most of the places in Iran. In that narrow street, there will be two things that will draw your attention: a line of people that you would see and the smell of the barbequed fresh beef. If you continue walking in the street and follow the line of people, you will see a very small place selling hamburgers. There are no chairs to sit on, there is no roof to stand under, and there is no special decor. See, the special thing about this place is not the perfectly cooked burgers or the perfectly toasted breads or even the crunchy, tasty fries, with the special sauce, that can be bought in a very good price; I mean you can get that from any not very bad fast food place, but the special feature that they will provide is the one and only “Tapas Cheese”. The “Tapas Cheese” doesn’t have a special recipe. It’s just grated cheese, in a pan, melting on fire. So you go there and order the kind of burger you want to eat, and then the tapas cheese option is on the table. (One will be enough for two burgers.) After waiting for about 20 minutes in a busy day, you will receive what you ordered. To eat the food, there are two options and one of them is a secret. Option number one is to stand while you are eating on a tall table, and option number two, which is the secret one, is to take your tray, take some ketchups and napkins, and get ready for eating a delicious meal in the back alley of the restaurant. This was the option that me and my friends would usually choose. We would just go to the back alley, which the only source of light was a tiny lamp in front of a house, and then we would just sit on the ground and feast like animals, wild and nasty. The atmosphere, the food, the not very good service and the back alley, makes this place very special for me.  Believe me when I say this, my friends and I had the best times of our lives there.
