Readers Response: “A Television Drama”

Part A- The Reporter’s POV

I stand outside on the street, watching the police alerting everyone to stay inside and not come out until further notice has been instructed. Police are seen all around the neighbourhood walking along the sidewalks with police dogs, trying to find the runaway suspect that is now in hiding. Residents of the neighbourhood are seen staring outside of their windows trying to figure out what has happened. I hear the sounds of policeman telling other reporters that the suspect may be armed and he had hurt a lot of people. Information that I had heard about the suspect was that he was guilty of murder and theft. I decide to go and observe the location and ask people if they have seen anything suspicious prior to the event that has taken place.

Part B- Media and “A Television Drama”

The story makes it seem that whenever something violent or crucial occurs, the community stays calm and alert about the situation. It states that they are being smart, responsible and aware of events that are taking place. Even tho the community in the story seemed calm and alert, they were also confused  and anxious about what was going on and wanted to know more information about the suspect that was presumed to be hiding in their neighbourhood. Example: After the police told the residents to go back inside of their homes,  everyone respectively listened and started heading back calmly and quickly without any further explanation but in the beginning of the story, everyone was outside questioning what had happened.
