3D Settings – Takedown

Takedown is about a teenage boy living in Ontario. This boy is named Darren and the story takes off just a bit after he gets out of Juvie. He lives in the projects and even after being in juvie for 2 years he decided to go back to the life of drug dealing. He’s only gone back for one reason though, revenge. He spends his nights on street corners and his days in school. He has one place he feels the most comfortable though, in the music room. The story follows Darren as he faces challenges and new feelings trying to seek revenge on the person who put him in juvie. As he tries to find his way he falls in love with a girl. While trying to handle the weight of all of the things he wants to accomplish, he also takes a look around him and decides he wants to get out of the life he is living. He doesn’t want to live in the projects his whole life standing on street corners. He wants to move to the suburbs and live in a nice house. I’m hoping this story has a good ending and Darren gets to pursue his dreams.

Quotations:

  • Two classes later, I was in my happy place. The synthesizer pumped a raw beat. (Chapter: the stop page: 5
  •  The rest of the class was across the room playing instruments, but Mr. Filimino let me do my thing. He knew that violins and trumpets weren’t for me so he was cool with me making beats and writing rhymes. (Chapter: the stop Page: 8)
  • The music room was a big space that used to be the industrial workshop. (Chapter: the stop Page: 8)

  • When we were finished, we got to leave class early, so I stopped by the music room. Filimino had a prep this period , and I found him behind a mountain of paper.  (Chapter: mo Monday page: 41)
  •   By the time I showed up to Filimino’s class, I was ready to get lost in the beats. I rapped inside my head.  (Chapter: the ugly Page: 165)

  • At lunch I stayed in the music room. That’s where Jessica found me. (Chapter: the ugly page :167)
  • Making music was the only time I had the flow. I could focus so intensely that hours felt like minutes. (Chapter: the stop Page : 8)

  • All I had was a notebook full of rhymes. I’d repeat the songs over and over so I wouldn’t forget the tunes. (Chapter: the stop. Page: 9)
  •  I’d stay in the zone until every beat was in place, until every word was perfection. (Chapter: the stop Page: 8)
  •  Mr. Filimino had moved the music classes here because the acoustics were better than in any classroom. (Chapter: the stop page: 8)
