How would humans adapt if the earth stopped rotating?

How would humans adapt if the earth stopped rotating?

Before my research theory:

The un deniable thing is that the earth will stop rotating but the question is if it will happen before or after pollution or overpopulation destroys the planet. There are a couple theories to this but the most common one is that at first it will be really hard to live on because the oceans will naturally pull towards the poles so it would destroy buildings, schools, homes etc. another thing is that the days will turn into years so half the year will be day and half the year will be night.

Fraczek’s theory:

Naturally the earth is shaped like and ellipsoid meaning almost a perfect sphere but flattened on the top and a bit fatter one the sides. Fraczek (creates computers software) has said that if the earth stopped rotating the first thing that would happens is that days would turn into years. The earth’s rotation naturally pulls the planets mass towards the equator, so naturally all the oceans would merge towards the north and south poles. Eventually there would just be 2 big polar oceans the size of a continent. Fraczek actually stated that the earth’s rotation has been slowing down for billions of years. In a couple, more billions of years the earth will eventually come to a stop.

Magnetic field:

Every 500,000 the earth’s magnetic field reverses its self. The last known one was about 700,000Scientist know this because the oceanic plates continuously grow outwards from mid-ocean ridges. This was one of the main evidence that proves that there are tectonic plates on earth. The magnetic field can charge as quickly as an hour. When the sunspot disturbs the magnetic field, it sends clouds of charged particles into the atmosphere.

 Rotation of the earth:

Everything in the universe moves through space. If we didn’t have gravity, everyone and everything would float away. Earth’s gravity force is about 289 times stronger so we can centralize at the equator. The inner part of the earth rotates faster than the outside. it is made of solid iron, about 1500 mi in diameters while the outer is about 1400 mi.

 Gravitational field:

The gravitational field is the measure of a gravitational force due to material objects. It’s taken the force of a text body and divided it by its own mass. It is useful because of the action-at-a-distance problem. It was said that it was at Newton’s level for material bodies attract one another.

My theory:

What I believe is going to happen (after doing all my research) I think that when the earth stops to rotate everything will first go east. Anything that isn’t built into the ground will do that. then all the oceans will make two gigantic oceans, one south pole and one north pole. proceeding with that will be natural causes like earth quakes, volcano eruption and more. At these conditions, no human or living creature would be able to stand these conditions. Even if they did they would have to live directly in the middle so they wouldn’t burn up or freeze to death.

Information Fluency reflection

  1. What questions did you need to research in order to research your topic? How did humans adapt to change in the past? How does the earth rotate? What is the earth’s magnetic field like? What would happen if there was no sun on earth? How fast does the earth spin? And other questions along those lines. The reason I didn’t add those was because they didn’t help me as much.

  1. What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project? I used the edublog for the first and it was kind of challenging but I soon figured it out. I also used gal library which was so much easier than searching up everything, and I knew everything was real.

  1. What was the process you used to investigate the topic? I asked a lot and a lot of questions. I also discussed my topic with some kids from miss. Brandsma to help me get a better idea of what I wanted to do.

  1. How did you verify and cite the information you found?  I used library gal so I automatically knew the cites were real. I also looked at videos on bright side and it matched up to what I was reading on the gal library.

  1. How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better? The process was a bit tricky at first but I soon figured out what key words I wanted to use to help me get the answer I wanted. I feel like I could have done a little more comprehension but some of the words I didn’t fully understand.

  1. Goodjob! i really liked the topic and how you demonstrated your learning, do you have any more questions about this topic?

  2. Thanks for your science wonder post. I appreciate how you have successfully asked and answered good questions and acquired and analyzed key information. I like the media you included as it gives a great picture of your wonder topic. Great work citing your sources with embedded links. I love how you included your theories both before research and after!

  3. Thank you for sharing your post Alyssa! I like how you were able to cover a lot of material in an organized manner by using sub-categories. I think the theory of two oceans at our poles is very interesting. If humans couldn’t adapt to these changes, are there other organisms that could possibly?
