Social Media is a controversial topic all throughout the world. Some believe that social media is unhealthy and can potentially damage human interaction and real life relationships. Others believe that social media helps make social interactions easier and creates healthy connections universally. There are obviously some pros and cons to this topic, and that is exactly what this article illustrates.

This article is interesting as it reveals the demographics and history behind social media. It also gives us non biased facts about the topic such as “Social Media spreads information faster than any other media“, also giving us the opposite/negative fact “Social Media enables the spread of unreliable and false information“. This gives the reader factual information and supports our understanding of the topic. At the end of the pros and cons list created by the author, they provide some interesting facts which helps out our opinion a bit more!

Since this topic is already true to our society today, I made a connection to the short story There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury. In this short story, the author implies that we overuse technology, in numerous unnecessary ways. Social Media is slowly consuming our minds and helps mankind ruin nature and the things that are truly important, unlike social media.

Although there are many positives that come from social media, many of the facts from the pros and cons list are quite dangerous and unhealthy. It varies from online predators to criminal charges; the worst part of this all is that kids under the age of 10 are already used to technology and have access to everything. This can damage their understanding of many topics or get them hooked to an unhealthy lifestyle.

As a result, every topic has their pros and cons; it is just a matter fact of which opinion we support and what information we use to support it. This article was very interesting and supported my opinions about social media; there are some good things that come from it, but we do have to be careful with what we share to the world.
