This article was quite interesting to read as the topic has been discussed for years and debated endlessly, should school uniforms be adopted? Some believe that school uniforms often take away the freedom and rights of students and limiting the articles of clothing does not bring diversity into the students lives and does not help them find themselves. While others believe that it helps bring equality to the students lives, where everyone should be treated the same and keeps the students in a safer environment.
In this article the author discusses the pros and cons of having school uniforms. I enjoyed the list created by the author, it gave me a good understanding of what positives are taken from having school uniforms and the negatives taken away. The author indicates that having school uniforms is not always a bad thing. They use many statistics and valid points to enhance the understanding of the reader. For example: School uniforms may deter crime and increase student safety- reports of assault and battery in the district’s schools decreased by 34%. The author did not bias his/her opinion and this improved my understanding that school uniforms can, in fact be safer and more helpful in the students everyday lives.
This article was really important to me as I have discussed this topic multiple times. School uniforms are not a choice, in most cases, a lot of students are forced to wear them as their school district enforce them. This can create a ton of different opinions, some good and some bad. Reading this article can better develop the opinions and discussions to those who are intrigued by this topic.
