Consumable Waste Plan

Most of us are probably aware of how much impact food packaging causes. I mean almost every food comes with the packaging. Why is that? It’s because the food packages are for protection, convenience, image, and sustainability. The food packages protect the food from going bad. They can extend the period when they are safe to eat and at their best. It protects its contents from any damage that could happen during transport, handling, and storage. It must not only contain products safely, it must include required elements like ingredient and nutritional information, as well as barcodes. At the same time, it must appeal to consumers. The details written on the packaging provides major convenience to the seller and the consumer. Like how there are different types of food, there are different types of packages. There’s plastic, aluminum can, Styrofoam, cardboard boxes, foil sealed bags and etc. Based on what the product is, they need different packaging. For example, liquid products need protection that does not leak. Plastic is the most common material, and they need up to 1000 years to be decomposed. Most food packaging is designed to be single-use and is not recycled, and food packaging materials make up almost half of all municipal solid waste. After they have been used, they go to the landfill, in our waterways, or scattered across our land. It pollutes our air, water, and soil and can be harmful to animals. Not only packaging wastes there’s lots of food waste that impact the environment. After they have been thrown out, most of it ends up in landfill sites where it releases methane, a damaging greenhouse gas. Throwing away food is also a huge waste of the energy, water, and packaging used in its production, transportation, and storage. So how can we reduce these wastes? Using green packagings like cornstarch packaging, mushroom packaging, seaweed packaging, recycled cardboard, recycled paper, eco-friendly plastic, and recycled plastics. Carrying your own reusable bag, water bottle, coffee cup, straw, and utensils. Buy loose products, such as fruits and vegetables, instead of pre-packaged packs. Try not to order food or take-out food. Takeout food is wrapped in plastic or aluminum foil, then placed into paper, plastic, or Styrofoam containers. Then put into paper bags and finally into plastic grocery bags. These bags may contain plastic cutlery, napkins, and straws and that causes a lot of waste. Also, to reduce food waste always try not to make leftovers and store foods the right way. These ways you can reduce wastes and save the environment.
