In the This is Our World video, Steve Cutts is trying to illustrate how our life is affected these day because of all the technology we have around and the addiction to that technology. It starts off showing humans on their cellphones falling down a sewer. A little boy sitting down on the side of the street looking sad, but no one approaches him because everyone’s attention is focused into their screen. There is a woman taking a selfie while in the background there is a fire happening and that is to symbolize the world is falling apart but people are not trying to fix it because their attention is focused somewhere else. There is a girl in her room miserable but as soon as she comes into the camera frame she is acting all happy and smiling, this symbolizes how we are putting on this fakeness for social media just because we don’t want to be made fun of. Throughout this video it shows people doing everything we as humans do. Go to work, eat and be with our family but the humans in the illustrations are all on their phones and even when the little boy tries to get their attention it does not work. There is a part in the video where there is a girl that is wanting to jump down a building. She is scared and terrified, but no one decides to stop her, instead everyone has their cell phone out and are filming her and so she jumps. In the end of the video it shows humans on their cellphone all walking a path not looking up, so they would know where it leads and so as a result they are all falling down a cliff. The This is Our World video symbolizes humans nowadays, how we are all influenced by our screens and how we are letting our cellphones control us. In this video, it shows how the humans are all locked into their screen and they can’t escape. This video shows that the technology around humans is affecting the way we behave with others and even ourselves. Social media has become the way we let others judge us and how through technology face-to-face communication has become less and is now almost non-existent.
