The Pedestrian Video Assignment

Technology Today: Is a Scourge or Blessing
Like many things in the world, what you give is what you get. This goes for diets, assignments, and even technology. In the last couple decades technology has advanced more than our ancestors could have ever imagined; and with all the good its brought us there has also been some bad. However, the bad that’s been created like: online pedophilia, mental health deterioration, and severe lack of privacy has all been the product of human error. Technology doesn’t create bad, we do. Our lack of privacy online is due to what we allow to be put online. Things like mental health, stalking, and environmental issues existed already, and technology hasn’t changed or enhanced it; the new and upcoming generation must learn from our mistakes, and use technology for good. The way it’s supposed to be used. Technology can solve so many of our current global issues. For instance: we are making great advances in renewable energy sources and are steaming farther away from fossil fuels. According to a study done in Wales for the last 140 years, technology has created over 1.2 million jobs- more than which it has taken. How can you contribute to this? Be more aware of what you post. Think twice before you click send, and think about the consequences. Also, think about recycling. If your phone or computer dies look into local places that takes those parts and recycles them-contributing to an eco-friendly future. Like any superhero with power and abilities, we must use technology to benefit the greater good. Think into the future and see how we can reach all the goals our ancestors thought we’d accomplish; see all which we can achieve, and what we’re capable of. Why is technology and it’s part in the future important to us? It’s important because, we are the future. The world we create is the one we must live in. We must learn from past mistakes and grow so that our kids, and their kids can live happily and healthily. Technology might not be the answer to global warming or health problems, but it the first big step in getting the ball rolling. Let’s create something we can be proud of, and give us a gift to our future friends and family. The future is in our hands now, and so is our smartphones; it’s time to use both to come together and change things.

Wave interference

How do noise cancelling headphones use wave interference to eliminate unwanted sound?

Active noise control uses sound wave interference to reduce sounds . Outside noises are captured  through a microphone where a sound wave is emitted with the same amplitude but inverted. This cancels the wave out removing the noise.

1. Constructive interference: the crest or trough meets with another pairing crest or trough where the energies combine. The energies combine to create one big trough or crest by passing through one another and only have an affect where they meet.

2. Destructive interference: when an opposing crest or trough meets with the opposite wave, the energies combine by canceling each other out. The energies pass through each other and only have an affect where they meet

3. Standing wave: When passing waves have the same amplitude and wavelength resulting in the interference pattern becoming stationary.

Skype Chat Blog Response

On January 15th our class skype chatted a girl name Charis Walko. Charis is a stem cell researcher that works with pluripotent stem cells with a company in Vancouver. She got her degree with stuff relating to liver stem cells and has done multiple drug screenings. She explained to us some of the stuff she does in her job. She explained in great detail how they take a cell and rewind it back to its early stages. She also explained to us how they take a DNA and remove a mutation making it healthy. I thought the experience was pretty cool. I like how we skype chatted her and got to see and hear her explain things as well as have a projection of things she was writting down and explaining. I thought it was much easier to follow along and understand.

She touched on pluripotent cells and how she works with them so our question kind of tied I’m with that. Our question was;

“What types of diseases can be treated with Stem Cells”

Another her question asked was “What is the biggest controversy with stem cells”

Her answer was the embryonic stem cells controversy, which is the research of embryo cells. Most people question the ethics of this and belive the research is done involving the development and destruction of human embryos.

One of the most interesting things I learned was the difference between Adult stem cells and pluripotent stem cells. The difference is that Adult ones only made to the same type of tissue rather than pluripotent can be made into any type of cell.
