Deep thinking question: what can we do that will allow people with Huntington’s disease everyday lives easier?

I think my question is a good deep thinking question. I thinking this because in my opinion, if we start educating more people about Huntington’s disease I think that we can start to understand it more and we can start to make individuals with this disease everyday lives a lot less stressful and hard. We can start to understand what their abilities and disabilities are so we can start helping them with things they are struggling with like; getting off the couch, controlling the tv, drawing and much more.

My group’s idea was to create some sort of tea or coffee mug with a modified handle that would allow Tim to grip onto it properly without easy dropping access and more pleasure with drinking his coffee. We think that we can make a handle out off of Tinkercad and print it off onto the 3D printer and taking a mug and modifying it better by gluing the handle on.

Main Idea

What are huntingtins

      • Huntington’s disease is a rare inherited disorder involving the progressive loss of particular nerve cells in the brain.

-The disease is characterized by dementia? of gradually increasing severity leading to the need for full nursing care.

-Huntington’s disease occurs in about one in 15,000 people across the globe.

-Huntingtin is found in many tissues? in the body, but the highest levels are seen in the brain.

This leads to the production of an abnormally long version of the huntingtin protein. This long version is then cut into smaller, toxic fragments that accumulate together and disrupt the normal functions of nerve cells.

when researching this topic I think it was much easier to answer my question with a whole bunch of answers supporting it. Once I started with my question I had started making points of all the little questions supporting my main detailed question which allowed me to get closer to the answer I have been looking for. When asking my question I wanted to ask something that would allow me to think and learn new things about the disease while trying to find the answer to my question. the info that I have collected gives me different topics and sections that all lead to the answer to my question. By exploring different topics throughout the main subject I could learn and collect new information so I could add up the pieces to figuring out a good solid answer to the main question component.

questions

  • what is Huntington’s
  • what are the pros and cons of Huntington’s
  • what can and what can he not do
  • what feelings and emotions do people feel when they have been diagnosed with Huntington’s

I had used the internet of course but I had also watched some youtube videos on Huntington to see what it’s like in person.

all of the cites I have found ours all by medical companies and people who know what they are talking about. most of the information I had gathered from different individual cites was basically all identical so that is how I came to the conclusion that the information was correct.

I think throughout this I could have picked a more general topic. there is nothing that would exactly tell me what cure Huntington’s but it defiantly gave me ways that we as individuals could help someone’s everyday life a lot smoother. Huntington isn’t something that we can snap our fingers and it will be gone. like in some of the videos I had watched it said it was basically incurable, but there are definitely ways that we can help them. for instance, as our class is doing creating modified versions of things to make things easier for people. I have for sure learned a lot through this process.
