  1. Fire

Never put water on a grease fire. If fire is on stovetop, cover pan and turn off heat. To extinguish a fire that has spread to someone’s clothing, wrap them in a fire blanket and have them roll on the floor to smother the fire.

  1. Burns/Scalds

If you get burnt, run your hand under cold water and put on burn ointment if its available. To prevent burns, use a wooden spoon instead of a metal spoon when using a pot on the stove.

  1. Chemicals

Keep chemicals away from food, and never mix household cleaners together.

  1. Slips/Trips/Falls 

Always clean up spills right away to prevent slipping. Always wear suitable footwear in the kitchen to avoid slipping.

  1. Cuts 

Cut away from yourself, and use ‘the claw’ while working with knives to avoid cuts. Cover any cuts with waterproof gloves or bandaids, to prevent infection.

  1. Heavy Lifting

Lift with your legs not your back, to avoid injuring your back. If something is too heavy ask for help.

  1. How to Prevent Food Poisoning

Wash fruits and veggies before working with them. Don’t use cans that have dents or bulges. Make sure all meat and food it cooked thoroughly.

  1. Waste Management

Paper towels and food scraps go in the compost bin. To avoid unnecessary waste reread your recipe before preparing ingredients.

  1. Personal Hygiene

Always tie up long hair before cooking. Always wash hands thoroughly before cooking.
