Solving Equations Visually

For this Math assignment, we were asked to do the equations visually and/or do them with a maximum of 3 written form.

Equations:

1.) -9x – 4 = 10x – 1

2.) 6x – 4 = 7x + 5

3.) -10x + 10 = 4x – 11

4.) – x – 6 = 10x + 3

Written Form:

Visual:

(red pebbles are negative, blue pebbles are positive)

(green pebbles are also positive)

Equation: -9x-4=10x-1

Step 1 First step is to take off the zero pairs which are the blue and red pebbles.

Step 2 I also did the same thing on Step 2 by taking off the square on the right by adding 1 square.

The solution for this equation is x = -3.

Equation: 6x-4=7x+ 5

Step 1 I took off the 6 pebbles on both sides to be able to make zero pairs 6x.

Step 2  Here I added 5 more white squares on both sides to make zero pairs that are right beside x (green pebble).

The solution for the equation is x = -9.
