Neuron communication – Aiden.W

Neurons:

Neurons are located in your spinal cord and brain. Neurons have crucial functions within humans, they send electrical signals and chemical signals from your body to your brain. There are three main types of neurons such as the motor neurons, sensory neurons, and interneurons. Motor neurons connect your brain to your muscles throughout your body, they transmit electrical impulses from your muscles to your brain or the other way around and these impulses contain information. Sensory neurons are what help you feel pain and touch, when you feel pain or other sensations sensory neurons send electrical impulses to your brain and let it know you are feeling that certain sensation. Interneurons are like a connecter these neurons connect motor neurons to other motor neurons and the same with sensory neurons. When neurons send an electrical or chemical signal, when they do, they do a task called action potential that sends a quick charge of electricity from the neuron down the axon. The action potential goes quickly through the cytoplasm of axons, they get insulated by myelin until they reach the node of Ranvier. Each node of the membrane will depolarize above the threshold’s voltage and a large amount of sodium ions initiates the action potential through Nav.

Synapse:

Synapses help transmit information from one neuron to another neuron and connect neurons. When a neuron signal goes through to the end of the neuron it can’t just go through to the next cell. Getting it from one cell to another triggers the release of neurotransmitters that send the signal through the synapse and then onto the next neuron. The receiving neuron decides to react by looking at all the different messages it has received this will determine what will happen. If the neuron receives more excitatory signals, it might send its own action potential but if the neuron receives more inhibitory signals, then it might not create and send its own action potential.

The Machine Stops poster and composition-Aiden.W

This is my propaganda poster, I made it using Canva and wanted it to spark the emotion of anger and freedom.

Join The Rebellion

This propaganda poster I made was for the short story “The Machine Stops” by E.M. Foster. I made this propaganda poster trying to capture the feeling of being controlled and wanting to break free. In the short story, everyone is controlled by the machine, and most don’t even realize it, this poster is supposed to help them realize. There are people like Kuno out there that rebel against the machine and seek what’s on the surface, this poster is also supposed to represent that and show people there are people out there like them. I chose the colour red to provoke the feeling of anger and rebellion, I chose this because I want the fictional characters to look at it and feel angry that they have been slaves to the machine this whole time and feel there is a group like them out there. I the head in my poster to have a brain because I wanted it to represent people in the rebellion who are free thinkers and not controlled by the machine. I chose to add the group of people at the bottom because I wanted it to represent that there is a group out there and to either be afraid of them or to join them if you think alike and to know you are not by yourself. I chose handcuff breaking to show that people in the rebellion have broken free of the machine and are not chained down anymore, they are now able to be a freethinker and have 1st hand experiences. This propaganda poster is resentful of the rebellion and the free thinkers who are not slaves to the machine and can experience 1st hand experiences.

The Machine Stops- a display of our possible future

E.M. Fosters’ The Machine Stops is a story about a dystopian world where humans are forced underground and controlled by a machine. The protagonist is a woman who thinks the machine is everything and a higher power but, in the end, realizes the machine is flawed. Everyone is trapped in a box and won’t go out and have real connections with each other because they have everything they need in the box; this can be shown in our world today. This relates to Marshall Davis Jone’s spoken word where he speaks about how humans don’t have real connections anymore because of technology, touchscreen. “We used to sprint we used to sprint to pick and store blackberries now we run to the Sprint store to pick blackberries.” (Marshal Davis Jones, touchscreen) This is a point brought up by Marshal that goes back to the point that we used to be able to have real relationships and go outside, no we would rather go buy the newest device to sit at home and text.

The dystopian society shown in this short story compares and shows the same things going on in our current society, like in the story there are people who sit in their rooms all day on their machines and don’t have a reason to leave. The way the machine is able to stay in power and above everyone is because everyone has been brainwashed into believing whatever it says. This gives the machine full control to push out false information and be able to make sure no one defies it. In our current world, we don’t have something that forces us to stay inside but it is very similar, we have enough technology that we don’t ever need to leave our rooms. This causes unhealthy relationships with people as shown in the short story, how they never talked to people face to face and have short conversations with their friends. This is all because of mega-corporations that are trying to get you to keep buying new products and becoming a slave to their technology. This is also because humans now realize they can have everything done for them and now take advantage of that and become lazy. This is portrayed in the book – proof of this is when Vashti said, “I dislike seeing the horrible brown earth, and the sea, and the stars when it is dark.” (p.2) This shows that one day if we continue this, we are going to start hating the earth and have no care for it like in the short story. This is what Marshal was trying to say is going to slowly start happening because of technology becoming so powerful and taking our focus away from the earth. Wall-E also has a very similar message, in the film the world has gone to trash from humans and the earth becomes inhabitable. This causes humans to go in a spaceship and leave Earth, on the ship technology does everything for humans, and over time they become so lazy they can’t take care of themselves without technology. This can also be seen as a warning like the touchscreen and the machine stops, that if we stay focused on technology, and social media relationships and not the earth this fictional reality will become real. In the movie Wall-E, the captain says “I don’t want to survive! I want to live!” This is a powerful quote that goes back to my point, the captain realizes that he doesn’t want to live a meaningless life wasting away on technology he wants to experience things firsthand and live not just survive. All these sources are referring to that if we don’t make a change and focus on what’s around us and not just technology, we can fix our world instead of killing ourselves.

Dance is freeing

https://thisibelieve.org/essay/8447/

I came across this article by Fred D’Aguiar and thought it was a great article and wanted to speak about it. What drew me in was the header that said dance is life. I was curious what they meant by that and hoped they would expand and go in depth. The content also drew me in my mom is a professional dancer, so dance has been in my household my whole life, so I wanted to see what they said. I think the purpose of this article is to persuade and convince everyone that dance is relaxing and can end a lot of problems and wanted to convince everyone that they should dance. I think it was also for entertainment, the writer seemed to just want to express his love for dance and talk about what it has done for him. I really enjoyed reading this article because of the way he wrote it, kept it short but informative and got his point across, it was also detailed in the way he explained how dance had helped him and others and I really liked how the writer showed his emotion while reading I could feel his passion and his emotion towards dance and I feel that is very important when writing an article like this. learned quite a bit from this article, I learned how dance is freeing and it can help anyone. I learned that no matter how old you are dance can always help free you from issues and clear your mind. This article made me happy because it showed me that even in struggles having something like dance can bring everyone together and clear your mind from all the problems going on currently in your life. I also learned that the writer thinks that if everyone danced, we would be more united and would end a lot of problems because we came together. Overall, I thought this article was excellent and worded we, and would suggest it to others to read.
