Math Blog Week 15

This week on math we learned about slopes and slope formula.

On a graph the slope is how much a value changes over time.

A slope can easily be calculated by using the formula \frac{rise}{run}.

There are 4 types of slopes: Positive, negative, zero, and undefined.

A postive slope is one that has no negative in the slope value and travels up to the right or down to the left.

A negative slope does the opposite and has one negative in the slope and travels up and to the left or down and to the right.

A zero slope is one that travels perfectly horizontal with no vertical; the value for the slope is always \frac{0}{x} because there is no rise the slope is always 0.

An undefined slope is one that travels vertically with no horizontal movement; this is undefined as opposed to zero because the slope would equal \frac{y}{0} and since dividing by 0 is essentially impossible it is simply undefined.

No matter where the negative sign in an equation is the slope is always negative.
