20% Project – Wrapping Up – Aiden Hall

With a lot of help from my dad I managed to make a simple projectile that comes out of the player properly (it was supposed to be a grappling hook), a camera that follows the player, and a more responsive control scheme, and attempted to modify the ground check so that I stop wall jumping.

For my 20% project I wanted to make a simple 2D game, I decided to set my sights lower and make a 2D movement system instead (mostly because I can’t draw).

On this project I learned how to perform basic movement commands in unity such as left and right and a jump, how to utilize rigidbody for physics, how to create new objects with instantiate and cloning, utilize the smoothing function to get the camera to follow the player a split second after they move, utilize different layers for proper colliding and interactions, change control sensitivity, create collisions between objects, how to use a vector system, and debug using the code.

I’m quite proud of how far my project has come already and feel like I’ve learned a lot, but keep in mind that my dad helped me with most of it. While my 20% project may be over I’m planning to continue working on it into the future, so that it hopefully becomes a finished game some day (and make a working grappling hook for it too).
