Autism Sonnet

Autism Sonnet

Autism is too often misconceived

Considered a problem, misunderstood

That there is hope, is not always believed

With love, can we possibly find the good?

People see difference and don’t like it

I think in pictures, keep thoughts to myself

I’m unique, they think that I do not fit

I’m often ignored and left on the shelf

What if I told you autism is a gift?

Thinking in ways others simply cannot

Clearly it’s time for people’s minds to shift

Beautiful minds should not be left to rot

We’re inventors that move our world forward

Please stop saying that we are disordered

(I chose not to show a picture because I’m worried it will create more misconception about myself and others!)
