Dead Poets Society Reflexion

In the movie Dead Poets Society the central message is “Carpe Diem” meaning “Seize the Day”. In Dead Poets Society their teacher Mr. Keating encourages them to take advantage of everyday and make it the best possible by doing what they love. The boys are forced to follow all the rules and never stray away from them but through Mr. Keating’s poetry lessons they learn to think for themselves and find their own voices. In the poem Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow, the central message is that life is meaningless and that there’s no real reason that we’re here. These two pieces have very contradicting messages because one says to live everyday in the best way possible and the other says that everyday has no purpose.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie. I liked the whole message that it sends about making your life extraordinary and doing what makes you happy. The ending of the movie really surprised me because I didn’t expect Neil to commit suicide. I thought that things with his dad would’ve worked out because that’s what usually happens in movies but I like how it wasn’t cliché. I thought the last scene was very powerful as well. How Todd found his voice after he hadn’t been able to talk in front of people and when the boys stood on their desks supporting Mr. Keating really showed the growth in all of the boys.
