This week we started the unit of polynomials and how to multiply monomials and binomials. To multiply binomials we can use a method called “FOIL” which is an acronym for using distributive property. FOIL stands for: F – first term O – outside term I – inside term L – last term. For example we’ll use this equation:   (x + 6)(x + 4). First we’re going to multiply the first term in each bracket, so x times x. Second we multiply x and 4. The we multiply 6 by the second x. Lastly we multiply 6 and 4. The end result is x^2 + 4x + 6x + 24. If there are any like terms we add them together after, so in this case it’s 6x and 4x so now our answer is x^2 + 10x + 24.
